WhoIs Search

Have you ever encountered a website on the Internet that seems rather sketchy or unusual? The answer to this question is probably “yes.” Thankfully, the website InterNIC is a tool that can help you find out a little bit more about a website and where it came from. I used the InterNIC site to help me find out a little about the Americans For Freedom Organization.

I used the InterNIC WhoIs website to find out a little bit more information about Americans For Freedom. Michael Pinson is the registrar, administrartor, as well as the tech person for this group. The website was created on July 8, 2008 and it was last updated on March 31, 2010. Because Michael Pinson seems to be the owner, you can contact him by phone or e-mail. There is also a postal address give which happens to be located in Florida. The IP Address that was used is D153242103-LROR. It appears that because Michael Pinson seems to be the only person running this group and/or website, that he would be the one to contact for any questions.

If I were yo use this site in the future, I would probably only use it if I were planning on making a website. I would want all of the information about myself and my website that appears on WhoIs to be as accurate as possible. This website was a good for me to look at because it taught me that you can use the internet to find anything. Even when websites were created as well as who they were created by and where they were created.

Second Official Blog Post

Being introduced to a content management system would be a very valuable experience because it opens one’s doors to something that they wouldn’t normally be exposed to. In my opinion, a content management system such a blog, is something that many people would not be exposed to on their own. To be honest, if it wasn’t for this class then there is a very good chance that I would have never had my own blog. I guess I shouldn’t say NEVER; maybe I should have said right now.

I have learned a lot about creating online content that I didn’t know previously. Everything that I have learned in this class thus far this semester has been new to me. I didn’t have a blog until this class and I had never been into Twitter until this class. Both prove to be good tools when wanting to put content on the Web that originates in one’s own mind.

I was originally asked to begin working with content management systems for this class because it is a very good skill to have. Working with these systems has exposed me to a skill that I otherwise would have never had.

The three applications in my chosen career in which I might use this skill are in regards to writing news releases, if I have my own blog when I am engaged in my career because it is something that my employer wants its employees to have, or if the possibility of me having my own blog to help me along in my job.

I still have a lot of information to learn about working with content management systems. I understand the concept and how to do the basics, but I am still learning as I am going. Content management systems, such as this blog and other sites like Twitter There are a lot of things that I can do when it comes to content management systems that I still am unsure of how to do or don’t know what it means. I will develop my skills in this area by continuing to blog and learning and teaching myself as I go along.

Current Skill Set

After reading both of the articles provided to us regarding the skills that a PR professional should have when they enter their career, I realized that that the PR profession looks a lot more complex than I originally thought it was. The first blog, written by Dave Fleet did a good job of making me realize all of the skills that one needs for a successful career in PR. In this blog post, the first three skills that he mentions are writing, communication skills, and attention to detail. All three of these are skills that I already possessed that I feel I have mastered pretty well. However, no matter how good someone is at a certain skill, it is my belief that there is always room for improvement. Another skill that he mentioned worth having is the proactive skill. This is something that you must get accustomed to doing. If you don’t know the answer, it is very important that you know how to use the Internet to help you research the information you need. I possess this skill as well. There isn’t any information that can’t be found on the Internet; you just need to know how and where to look in order to find it.

The one skill mentioned that did surprise me a little bit was mentioned in the Mashable piece that we read. It says that PR people need to be a multimedia storyteller. I really don’t think that this is really something that a PR person needs to do because when I think of someone who works as a PR professional, that skill isn’t one of the skills that I have in mind for a PR person to have. However, one can never be TOO skilled at what they do. It doesn’t hurt to have a lot of skills in a lot of different little areas. The only skill I can think of that was left off these two lists to have patience. Lots and lots of patience. Sometimes people might not cooperate with you in the exact manner you want them to. Or it might take them a little longer to understand how you want something done or what you mean or what you are trying to say.

Superbowl Prediction

This coming Sunday marks a day that sports fans across the world look forward to each year: Superbowl Sunday. Whether you watch the Superbowl for the game or for the commercials, there is no doubt in my mind that this Superbowl will be remembered for years to come. This Sunday afternoon in Dallas,Texas, well over 100,000 screaming fans, joined by millions across the world will witness history in the making. The Pittsburgh Steelers, led by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who faced much adversity throughout the course of this season, will be playing in their 3rd Superbowl in the last 6 seasons, and their 8th in franchise history. Roethlisberger, who already has two Superbowl victories under his belt, will have a chance to enter an elite group with a third victory on Sunday. Only four other quarterbacks in NFL history have three or more Superbowl Victories. Roethlisberger could be #5. The Pittsburgh Steelers, who have a phenomenal defense led by Defensive Player of the Year, Troy Polamalu, will be ready to shut down the high-powered passing offense of Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. There is no doubt in my mind that this Superbowl will be one that I will remember for years to come. Unfortunately, for those Packers fans out there, it is my belief that experience comes in handy in situations like these. The packers haven’t been to the Superbowl since the 1998, and only one player on their team currently played in that game: Defensive Back Charles Woodson. The Steelers are the more talented and experienced team and will come out victorious by a score of 27-17. Not if, but, when the Steelers come out as Superbowl 45 (XLV) champions, they will be crowned as one of the greatest dynasties that the world of sports has ever seen.

Another reason why I hope that the Steelers win the game are two reasons. the first of these reasons has to do with Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. At the end of last summer, Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assualt in a Georgia nightclub. After an investigation, he was then suspended for the first 6 games of the regular season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Goodell, then reduced Roethlisberger’s suspension to four games. In week five of the NFL regular season, Roethlisberger led the Steelers to victory in his first game back. For him to win his third Superbowl in the last 6 years would be the perfect ending to an emotional season and past few months. The other reason I hope the Steelers win has to do with their head coach Mike Tomlin. In 2009, Tomlin became the first African American, as well as the youngest coach to win a Superbowl. If the Steelers win Superbowl XLV, Tomlin will become the youngest coach in NFL history to win two Superbowls. Tomlin turns 39 on March 15th.
